Longmont man accused in sexual assault at Imagine House sentenced to probation

Daily Times-Call - 12/13/2018

Dec. 13--An Imagine House client accused of sexually assaulting a woman with an intellectual disability in August 2015 was sentenced Thursday to five years of probation and fines.

Robert Thomas Korman, 32, pleaded guilty Thursday to third-degree assault before receiving his sentence, according to court records. He was also charged with sexual assault and sexual assault of an at-risk victim, but both were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

The conditions of his probation include required basic sex education and boundaries treatment, keeping a full-time work or school schedule, and not contacting the victim, among others, according to Boulder County Chief Trial Deputy District Attorney Catrina Weigel. Korman also cannot reside with women or girls until approved by probation.

Korman, who has a high-functioning cognitive disability, underwent a competency evaluation and was found competent to proceed in June, according to Weigel. She said the plea agreement "struck a balance" that took into consideration his competency issues and the wishes of the victim that he be held responsible and not be in a position where he could harm someone.

According to an arrest affidavit, a woman who has Down syndrome and early signs of dementia told police that Korman removed her pants, touched her inappropriately and penetrated her with a foreign object.

The victim was also a client of Imagine House, a community-based residential service agency supporting people with intellectual, cognitive and developmental disabilities.
