Leesburg nursing home employee arrested for making prank bomb threat on a dare: report

Orlando Sentinel - 3/1/2019

March 01-- Mar. 1--A nursing home employee was arrested for making two prank 911 calls -- on a dare from a co-worker -- warning of an explosive device at the Leesburg facility, according to a police report.

Janeicia Dashay Hunter, 20, of Leesburg, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of making a bomb threat after she admitted to police she made the calls "because she was dared by another employee...," the report said.

Six police officers responded about 4:15 p.m.Feb. 22 after the calls were made to Lake Harris Health Center, 701 Lake Port Blvd., the report said.

"The unknown caller said she had a 'tip' from an unknown source that a 'suspicious thing' had been placed inside the facility's two kitchens. The caller stated she didn't know if they were 'talking about a bombing or what," the report said. "The caller identified herself as 'Edward Brown' before disconnecting the call."

No explosive device was found, according to the report, which noted that the facility wasn't evacuated. The calls were found to have been made from the hostess desk and video surveillance showed Hunter taking the cordless phone from the counter about the time the 911 calls were made, the report said.

Police went to the nursing home Wednesday and spoke with Hunter, who first denied making the calls before admitting doing so, the report said.

"The defendant showed remorse and stated she was sorry for making the calls," the report said.

She was released from the Lake County Jail after posting $5,000 bond.
