Community Briefs: 'Medicare for All' forum planned

Jun. 12--A town hall forum on "Medicare for All" single-payer health care will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at the Darden Alumni Center, 1600 Lipscomb Road E. Lenwood Ward and Joyah Bullock are scheduled to speak. Organizers say a single-payer plan would cover all Americans, provide care for pre-existing conditions and save money.

Bereavement support group to meet

Hospice of Wilson will hold a bereavement support group meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13 in Wilson Medical Center'sWells Fargo Conference Room. For more information, call 252-640-2400.

Chicken dinner plate sale planned

ELM CITY -- The Frederick Douglass High School Alumni Association will have a chicken dinner plate sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 14 at 106 Dixon St. Plates are $8 each. All proceeds benefit the scholarship fund.

NAACP schedules Freedom Fund banquet

The Wilson County NAACP branch will hold its Freedom Fund banquet celebrating 110 years at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at the Darden Alumni Center, 1600 Lipscomb Road. JoAnne Woodard will be the guest speaker. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased from any member of the Wilson NAACP or by calling 252-281-4681.

Springfield High class plans reunion

The Springfield High School class of 1969 will celebrate its 50th reunion beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, June 28 with a cookout at the American Legion Building in Elm City; a banquet from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at the Wilson Country Club and ending with morning worship at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 30 at Mary Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 6202 Wiggins Mill Road, Lucama.

Alumni group plans scholarship dance

The William-Springfield Alumni Association's annual scholarship dance will be held from 9 p.m. Saturday, July 6 to 1:30 a.m. Sunday, July 7 at the Wedgewood Country Club on Old Stantonsburg Road. Dress is semi-formal.
