Multi-million dollar renovation project underway at Dauphin County nursing home

Patriot-News - 2/16/2024

A multi-million dollar renovation project is underway at a Dauphin County nursing home and personal care facility.

Renovations are underway at Capitol Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, a 138-bed skilled nursing facility at 4000 Linglestown Road in Lower Paxton Township.

New Jersey-based Marquis Health Consulting Services, which provides administrative and consulting services to the facilities, is modernizing the lobby, dining room, patient rooms and activity areas at Capitol Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.

"A central highlight is the expansion of the center's rehabilitation gym, to include state-of-the-art equipment and technology to support the delivery of progressive rehab services," the company said in a news release. "This incorporates an Activities of Daily Living (ADL) suite that mimics a home environment - enabling patients the opportunity to regain skills before returning home."

The gym will even have a smart car in the Activities of Daily Living suite, which will help to simulate actual daily living skills like getting into and out of a car during the rehabilitation process.

The renovations at Capitol Rehabilitation & Healthcare began last year and the gym renovation have just begun. Renovations are expected to be completed in the fall.

"Capitol Rehabilitation & Healthcare is going to be absolutely gorgeous. The center is being completely transformed into a modern, home-like environment for residents - one that accommodates progressive skilled nursing care and services," Nikki Gachot, director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, said in the news release. "The gym renovation speaks to this facility's commitment to physical medicine. It aligns with the expansion of its specialty programming - recently including the introduction of physiatry services - and plans in the works for a new stroke rehabilitation program."

The new physiatry program is led by Dr. Jordan Klein, the new program's director.

"Physiatry services - also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) services - blend pain treatments and physical therapy with the goal to help patients avoid surgery," the company said in the news release. "This physician-led, "whole body" approach at Capitol centers on designing, coordinating and overseeing customized rehabilitation therapies for patients while managing their medical conditions, including co-morbidities. The program is tailored for individuals with a range of diagnoses and rehab needs."

Klein is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and brain injury medicine, He is affiliated with Premier Medical Rehab LLC. In addition, he serves as medical director for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Carlisle inpatient rehabilitation facility and associate medical director of Encompass Health of Mechanicsburg.

"I am pleased to join Capitol's dedicated team in providing next-level skilled nursing care," Klein said in the news release. "Our customized, patient-centered rehabilitative treatment plans aim to facilitate stronger outcomes for patients and significantly improve their quality of life."

Renovations at Terraces at Capitol Village, a personal care facility, licensed for 64 residents, are starting this month. The company is planning a full renovation of all common areas (lobby and hallways) as well as the main dining room, activity room, theater and private dining room.

"The renovation at Terraces at Capitol Village will take its amenities and services to a new level - one that reflects the evolving demands of discerning seniors. Our vision is to offer the best of what is trending in senior living, including upscale residences, resort-style amenities and distinctive lifestyle options," Lauren Everett, vice president of senior living services, Marquis Health Consulting Services, said in the news release.

The Terraces at Capitol Village is located at 4004 Linglestown Road. Renovations at the Terraces at Capitol Village are expected to take a year.

"We sought to craft a series of lush and warm contemporary spaces, layering light wood tones, timeless natural stone, nature-inspired emerald greens and blues, along with abundant neutrals and nuanced textures. Bold architectural details, memorable light fixtures, and lively contemporary art complete our approach to a lifestyle of wellness, comfort, and luxury," Michael Lebovics, founder, vice president of design at ML Group, which is designing the facilities.

Capitol Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. The Terraces at Capitol Village has apartments for 64 personal care residents. The two buildings are connected by a breezeway and are located near Blue Ridge Village.

The nursing home at 4000 Linglestown Road was previously home to the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg for 45 years before being purchased in May 2022 by Tryko Partners, a New Jersey-based real estate investment company. The board of directors of the Jewish Home said at the time it had agreed to sell the facility to Tryko Partners, citing fiscal challenges related to Medicaid reimbursement rates and COVID-19. The personal care apartment building was previously known as The Residence. With the sale of the two facilities came new names - Capitol Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center and Terraces at Capitol Village.
