Curd receives two national awards

Mar. 19—GREENSBURG — Indiana University School of Social Work PhD candidate Jessica Curd, a resident of Greensburg, is the recipient of the American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities 2024 National Student Award.

AAIDD's awards recognize those persons who have made significant contributions that have influenced positive change in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities over an extended period of time.

The student award recognizes student contributions in service, leadership, or scholarship to the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.

AAIDD is the oldest and largest interdisciplinary membership organization of professionals and others concerned about intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Founded in 1876, AAIDD promotes progressive policies, sound research, effective practices and universal human rights for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

AAIDD has more than 4,000 members and, though primarily based in North America, has membership from more than 55 countries across the world.

Curd has also been named the recipient of the Advanced Palliative Hospice Social Worker — Certified of the Year Award presented by the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center, which recognizes the work of all hospice and palliative social workers from across the country.

The individual personifies excellence in the professional practice of hospice/palliative social work.

The individual has made contributions at the advanced practice level in at least one of the following areas of hospice/palliative care: clinical practice, education, or research.

The individual provides leadership through mentorship of others in hospice/palliative care.

Curd acknowledged and thanked her nominators, John Keesler, PhD, and Jade Presnell, PhD candidate.

"I am passionate about that work that I do," Curd said. "I have a child with disability and I also have a private practice intended to support neurodivergent persons, those with disability, those who are grieving or have endured trauma — it is a blended approach. I reside in Greensburg and my therapy practice is also based in Greensburg."

Last year, Curd received a National Award for Career Achievement from the Social Work Hospice and Palliative Care Network.
