EDITORIAL: Your health

Effingham Daily News (IL) - 4/24/2015

April 24--You can't beat a free health screening. The place to get one is in downtown Effingham on Friday. The health fair is scheduled to run from 2 to 6 p.m. It's being put on by HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital and the Effingham Daily News.

"We want people to be healthy, and prevention is the key to that," said the hospital's marketing specialist, Lisa Hoelscher.

We agree. That's why we're helping promote it.

There will be tests for blood pressure at The Thomas Shop; vision by Marion Eye Center at Chesnut Family Music; self-breast exam models by Women's Wellness at LaPetite Boutique; written lung cancer risk self-assessment at Joe's Pizza; written wound care self-assessment by Wound Healing Center at Stang Arts; glucose and cholesterol by Home Care at W.S. Broom Furniture; osteoporosis by Home Care at Village Wine and pre-injury sports at the Baseball Card Connection.

At The Zone, Cardiac Rehabilitation will provide instruction for Theraband exercises.

Outside the front doors of the Daily News office at 201 N. Banker St., there will be drums. We're assured the beats will be soothing, demonstrating the healing properties of music. We wonder if clattering keyboards can be considered soothing? Probably not on deadline.

In any case, please stop by and get some testing done. It could save your life.
