The Greeneville Sun - 5/9/2017

The public is invited to turn out Monday morning, May 15, in downtown Greeneville to cheer on the participants in the annual Greeneville-Greene County Nursing Home Parade.

The parade, which will begin at 10 a.m., is being held in conjunction with National Nursing Home Week, which will be recognized May 14-20 at skilled care centers nationwide.

Residents and staff from Life Care Center of Greeneville, Laughlin Healthcare Center, Signature HealthCare of Greeneville, and Durham-Hensley Care and Rehabilitation are all expected to participate in the upcoming nursing home parade.

Other special guests are also expected to participate.

According to event organizers, the parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Town Square Shopping Center, then continue up Summer Street to Main Street, where the participants will turn left onto Main Street and end up at the Greene County Courthouse.

On the courthouse lawn, a special program is planned, along with a colorful balloon launch.

In addition to the parade, the area nursing homes are also planning special events at their facilities for their residents, staff and guests.

This year's National Nursing Home Week is being recognized May 14-20 at skilled care facilities across the nation.

According to a news release from the American Health Care Association, the 2017 theme for National Nursing Home Week is "The Spirit of America."

"This theme underscores the bond between staff, volunteers and residents that capture the American spirit," the release notes.
