Family Fun Day for children with disabilities May 21

GRASONVILLE - The second annual Family Fun Day, hosted by multiple local and state-wide nonprofits and organizations, will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Talisman Therapeutic Riding Center, located at 300 Talisman Farm Circle in Grasonville. This event is tailored for families with children and young people with disabilities and special needs; however, there will be activities for the entire family to participate in and brothers, sisters, parents, caregivers and extended family are invited to attend. Admission is free, but registration is required by visiting www.abilitiesnetwork.org or calling 410-828-0770. This is a rain or shine event.

Family Fun Day will kick off at noon and will feature a variety of family-fun and sensory-friendly activities, including: barn tours, Paso Fino horse soccer game, beach and sensory trail walks, a sensory-friendly puppet show, and a spring horse show featuring the Talisman Riders. Event participants will also be able to sit on horse saddles, meet the horses at the farm, be "guest muckers," meet personnel from the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office, visit with four-legged friends from Canine Companions and more. In addition, there will be a resource fair for parents to meet organizations that offer programs and services for children with disabilities. Families who attend will enjoy free food and beverages, along with information and giveaways from the event's donors, partners and sponsors.

Family Fun Day is made possible by its organizing partners of both local and state-wide nonprofits and organizations, including: Abilities Network, The Benedictine School, Epilepsy Foundation, Kinera Foundation, Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene-Office of Oral Health, Parents' Place of Maryland, Queen Anne's County Office of the Sheriff, SPARK Initiative/ Kennedy Krieger Institute Center for Autism and Related Disorders, and Talisman Therapeutic Riding Center. In addition, other donors and sponsors include Canine Companions, Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department, Innova Pharmaceuticals, Kent Island Elks, RBC Financial and Sunovion Pharmaceuticals.
