BRIEF: Here's what happened to the nursing home residents seen sitting in waist-deep water

Patriot-News - 8/30/2017

Aug. 30--The 15 residents of a Texas nursing home seen sitting in waist-deep water after Hurricane Harvey hit are now "safe, warm and dry," authorities say.

Photos of the senior citizens sitting in wheelchairs and on walkers in the living room of La Vita Bella nursing home in Dickinson, Tex., went viral Sunday.

Some were so astounded by the photo posted Sunday morning that they doubted its authenticity, but the New York Times verified it was real.

The home had called residents' relatives to alert them that water nearby was rising, but emergency responders told the nursing home staff to stay put.

Sunday afternoon, the residents were rescued by a boat and two trucks, reports Fox8.
