DAWN CENTER HOLDS FAMILY FUN DAY

The Neighbor News - 11/29/2017

The DAWN Center for Independent Living in Denville held a Family Fun Day & Resource Fair recently at Central Park in Morris Plains. About 100 people attended the event, which featured a range of family friendly activities for all ages.

Because DAWN is a nonprofit organization serving people with disabilities in Morris, Warren and Sussex counties, a special highlight of the day was a Disability Sensitivity Station, which gave visitors a chance try some hands-on activities and tasks to raise their awareness of and understanding of various disabilities.

Those attending also enjoyed pumpkin and face painting, bubble dancing, games and prizes, refreshments and more. Turtle Races and an "Amazing Animal Facts" program were presented by Snakes-N-Scales of Wanaque, and a competitive wheelchair softball game between members of the Wheelchair Sports Federation and several of those attending also took place.

"This has been such a great day for people with or without disabilities to enjoy together," remarked one parent. "It is wonderful that DAWN planned an event offering activities that were naturally inclusive so that everyone could participate."

Several local agencies also were on hand to offer valuable information and resources on the wide range of disability services available to the community. They included Mental Health Association of Morris County, Advancing Opportunities, Allied Wealth Partners, Community Options, Aktion Club of Morris County, Community Access Unlimited, Caring Partners CMO, Cornerstone Adult Day Center, Gold Medal Home Health, Neighborhood House, Regional Family Support Planning Council #1, Morris County Sheriff's Office, United Way of Northern NJ/Caregiver Coalition, Zufall Health Center and Mind Body Dynamics.
