BRIEF: Man charged with rapes at New Bedford nursing home

The Standard Times - 12/7/2017

Dec. 07--NEW BEDFORD -- A 57-year-old man is facing rape charges involving victims at a nursing home in New Bedford and is awaiting a court hearing later this month.

Jacob King is charged with three counts of rape related to incidents involving two victims at the Savoy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, according to Megan Borges, a spokeswoman for Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.

Prosecutors sought to detain the defendant as a danger to the public at a hearing on Nov. 21, according to Borges. Judge Robert Ovoian found King to be a danger, but the judge released him on conditions of home confinement, monitoring with a GPS bracelet and the requirement that he stay away from the nursing home and the two victims, Borges explained in an email to The Standard-Times.

The case is scheduled to be back in New Bedford District Court on Dec. 20, she said.
