LATEST: Husband sought in fatal shooting of woman at Augusta nursing home

Augusta Chronicle - 2/10/2018

Feb. 09--A woman was killed in a shooting Friday morning at an Augusta nursing home.

Jazna O. Timmons, 34, of Augusta, was found fatally wounded in the parking lot of the Georgia War Veterans nursing home at 1101 15th St. She was an employee at the nursing home. She was shot at least one time and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:30 a.m., according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

Arrest warrants for murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime have been issued for Timmons' husband, Richard Lyle Timmons Jr., 29. He was last seen driving a 2010 White Chevrolet Traverse GA TAG# VFM 202. He is approximately 5'10, medium build with a short twist in his hair, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office news release.

The nursing home is an affiliated organization of AU Health. Augusta University President Brooks Keel issued a statement Friday offering condolences to Timmons family, saying that the shooting was determined to be domestic related.

"We are shocked and saddened at this terrible act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family at this time of great loss," he said in the statement. "Members of our chaplain's office and our counseling service will be available for staff and patients in the aftermath of this incident.

The school issued a shelter in place alert when the incident was reported at about 11:20 a.m, but later called it off.

Paine College also implemented a campus lockdown.

Timmons' body will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.
