Henry County seeks transit funds; sets qualifying fees

Nearly $700,000 in federal funds may help elderly and disabled residents get around Henry County more.

Henry County commissioners recently approved applying for Federal Transit Administration funds through the Georgia Department of Human Services.

According to a news release, the department's Coordinated Transportation System will provide transportation services to consumers of county Senior Services, Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health Clinics, Department of Family and Children Services and the Department of Labor.

Henry County Transit has provided transportation to elderly and disabled consumers under the department's transportation system for 20 years.

The federal funding will go through the 2019 fiscal year.

In other county commission action, fees are approved for 2018 elected office qualification.

Up for grabs are county commission seats for districts 3, 4 and 5, school board districts 4 and 5, state court judge, chief magistrate and solicitor general.

Fees are 3 percent of 2017 salaries.

For county commission, the salaries are $35,000 each; qualifying fees are $1,050.

School board salaries are about $17,000; fees are $511.38.

State court judge salary is about $151,555; fees are $4,546.68.

Chief magistrate salary is about 84,458; fees are $2,533.76.

Solicitor general salary is $55,825; fees are $1,674.75.

Qualifying begins March 5.
