AUTHOR READING: Anne Waldman, poet, performer, professor and cultural activist, will hold a reading from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. on March 22 in Table Rock Room 201-B in the Plemmons Student Union at Appalachian State University. The author will also present the Craft Talk, "The Creative Rhizome: Generative Practices in Art & Life," from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. in the same location. Waldman is the author of more than 40 collections of poetry. This event is sponsored by the Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series. DEMENTIA WORKSHOP: The Lois E. Harrill Senior Center invites everyone to come learn more about becoming a dementia-friendly community. They are partnering with the Area Agency on Aging to provide a community-wide discussion and training on how people can create a more friendly community for those suffering from or caring for loved ones with dementia. TAC TALK: Give your immune system a boost at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, and learn how essential oils can benefit your health during the transition into springtime. Attendees will learn the foundation of using essential oils to benefit all aspects of their health as well as walk home with their own Thieves Essential Oil Spray. TRADEMARK BASICS: Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute'sWatauga Small Business Center will offer a free workshop titled "Trademark Basics for Your Business" from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, at the Appalachian Enterprise Center. Taught by David Walker of North Carolina's Small Business and Technology Development Center, the course covers the differences between patents, copyrights and trademarks, how to acquire a trademark and more. CCC&TI ADMISSIONS NIGHT: Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute will host an Admissions Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, at Watauga High School. A CCC&TI admissions counselor from the Watauga Campus will be present to talk about enrollment, financial aid, disability services and more.

KAMPN FUNDRAISER: KAMPN will host its seventh annual fundraiser dinner at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Boone from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 23. Money raised will benefit KAMPN's LIFE Village. Guests can enjoy soup, crab salad or a grilled cheese sandwich, a side, drink and dessert, as well as a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. The first 25 guests to donate will receive a free pottery bowl handmade by local potter Becki Henderson-Gow. There is a $10 suggested minimum donation at the door.

POETRY CONTEST DEADLINE: The Lois E. Harrill Senior Center invites all seniors ages 60 or older to compete in a poetry contest. Poems must be submitted with registration form by March 23. The winners will be awarded prizes and announced during an awards ceremony at the center on April 6 at 10:30 a.m. For more information or to register, call Billie at (828) 265-8090.

CAREGIVER TRAINING: The Alzheimer's Association and Lois E. Harrill Senior Center invites all community members to participate in a free training workshop for caregivers. EGGSTRAVAGANZA: The town of Boone will hold its annual Easter egg hunts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, in downtown Boone. At 10 a.m., there will be programming for kids of all ages at the Watauga County Library. At 10:15 a.m. will be the 4-7 year old's egg hunt on the lawn of the Library, followed by the 0-3 year-olds at 10:30 a.m. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., select merchants in Downtown Boone will host a scavenger egg hunt for kids between the ages of 8 and 12. BLOWING ROCK EASTER FESTIVAL: Blowing Rock's Easter Festival and Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday March 24, in Memorial Park. Games and activities start at 10 a.m. and the egg hunt starts at 11 a.m. Come out and visit the Easter Bunny. Suggested ages are 1-13. BANNER ELK EGG HUNT: The annual Banner Elk Easter Egg Hunt at Tate Evans Park takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 24. From 11 a.m. to noon, find the bunny and make s'mores. Egg hunts kick off with 0 to 4 year olds from noon to 12:15 p.m., followed by 5 to 8 year olds from 12:15 to 12:30 p.m. and 9 to 12 year olds from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Activities will continue with bunny stories and face painting at the Book Exchange from 1:30 to 3 p.m., and the day concludes with Easter egg coloring at the Banner Elk Cafe from 3 to 4 p.m. Guests can enjoy live music and games provided by Welter Entertainment throughout the day. COFFEE WITH THE CURATOR: Join the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27 for Coffee with the Curator. Take a walk through the galleries with Dianna Cameron, curator of exhibitions and collections director, and Willard Watson III, programs and outreach director, and get a behind-the-scenes look into "The Way We Worked." Guests are invited to converse and pose questions while enjoying complimentary cookies and coffee at the Museum. This event is free with regular admission of $5 and free for museum members. REPUBLICAN WOMEN: The Watauga County Republican Women's Club will have its next monthly meeting at noon on Wednesday, March 28, at the Sagebrush Steakhouse in Boone. The WCRWC meets the last Wednesday of each month.

SPRING FLING: The Lois E. Harrill Senior Center invites all seniors 60 and older to join in at a Spring Fling. The event will take place at the senior center at 10 a.m. on March 28.
