Santa plans Everett visit for kids with autism, sensitivity

EVERETT — Santa Claus will make a special appearance next weekend in Everett for kids with autism and sensory sensitivities.

Mr. Claus invites kids ages 1 through 12 to the Imagine Children's Museumfrom 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, for a free, more subdued visit than the standard department store bustle.

The holiday season can be difficult for a child who is sensitive to light, noise or crowds, Imagine's education director Teddy Dillingham said.

"Providing a calmer, less crowded experience allows children and their families to meet Santa in a way that is just not possible in most settings," Dillingham said.

Instead of waiting in a line for photos, kids can find Santa hanging out in the train exhibit or outside the farm exhibit. Selfies are encouraged.

Sunglasses and ear protectors will be free for checkout.

Doors open at 9 a.m. at 1502 Wall St. in downtown Everett.

Families are asked to register beforehand at imaginecm.org/inclusion-registration. Space is limited. Other exhibits will be open as usual for the event, but the museum will stay closed to the general public until 11 a.m.

It's funded by the Providence General and Moccasin Lake foundations.
