Body found in Midwest City pond identified

Daily Oklahoman - 10/22/2019

Oct. 22--MIDWEST CITY -- Authorities have identified the body of a man found dead Sunday in a retention pond.

The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office identified the body as that of Philip Manzi, 25, who was found in a retention pond near SE 29 and Hiwassee Road.

Manzi was last seen at his Midwest City home on Oct. 12, authorities said. He had Asperger's Syndrome according to family members, and was emotionally upset and left the residence in his older model car, authorities said.

Three days later, he was reported as missing to Midwest City police.

Detectives were trying to locate Manzi and learned Oct. 17 that his vehicle had been impounded by the Oklahoma City Police Department on the day he was last seen at his home, authorities said.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, an elderly couple walking in the Timber Ridge Estates residential area thought they saw a body floating in the retention pond and had someone contact police.

When officers and firefighters arrived, they found Manzi fully clothed and dead.

"At this point and time, there is no indication of foul play or trauma to the body," Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. "We have no idea why Manzi was in the pond, but feel based upon physical evidence he may have been there for up to a week."

Family members have been notified and the manner and cause of death is still pending according to the Medical Examiner's Office.
