Brandon Curling Club accessibility upgraded

The Brandon Sun - 10/29/2019

Locals with mobility issues will now have an easier time accessing the Brandon Curling Club located inside the Keystone Centre.

According to a Oct. 23 press release, Keystone staff recently put the finishing touches on installing new automatic doors for the club’s interior and ice-level entrances.

These renovations were made possible thanks to a $4,000 donation from the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba (CPAM), which marks its fourth accessibility project with Keystone Centre.

“By making it more accessible, it helps not only our members with cerebral palsy, but everyone in the community with varying mobility,” said David Kron, executive director of CPAM.

This move represents the Keystone Centre’s most recent accessibility project, since the staff has already installed automatic doors on the facility’s main concourse and wheelchair ramps located in the Enns Brothers and Kinsmen arenas.

“The Keystone Centre is always striving to be an accessible and inviting venue for the community,” said facility CEO Jeff Schumacher. “We are fortunate that funders dedicated to achieving an inclusive and accessible environment are able to help us do just that.”

These accessibility improvements came just after the start of the 2019-20 curling season, which officially kicked off Sept. 30.
