EDITORIAL: If Obamacare is removed, we hope there's a plan in place

Feb. 25--It was a pleasure to hear from Kim Frederick-Law and her story about the Affordable Care Act and how it helped her pay for her and her son's health care.

Yes, it was a political event on Facebook Live designed to put second thoughts in the heads of those who want to repeal the act.

But Frederick-Law's story, about her son diagnosed with cerebral palsy and how the act pays for his care, is a good reminder there are real, human stories behind the act.

That sometimes gets lost in all the grousing about Obamacare.

We don't want to weigh in on the act itself and whether it should be repealed. Maybe there is a better solution out there, and maybe there isn't.

What we do hope, however, is there is a good replacement for the ACA in place before it goes away.

Regardless of your politics, the ACA really does impact people's lives for the better. We hope those charged with coming up with our nation's next health care system remember that.

We hope city continues to work toward being pedestrian friendly

We honestly don't know if the city of Greeley was correct in paying a blind pedestrian $350,000 to settle a lawsuit for a faulty crosswalk.

We just hope it provides inspiration for Greeley to be as friendly to pedestrians as possible.

Maria Madrigal Luz, who is blind, was struck by a vehicle and wound up in intensive care after she attempted to cross the street at 11th Avenue and 22nd Street.

City officials found after the incident that one of the audible signals intended for blind pedestrians was not working correctly.

Since the incident, the city has added more audible crosswalks.

We hope this continues. Those coos and chirps can help most pedestrians, not just blind ones, and anything the city can do to accommodate walkers would be great.

We're sorry for Luz's injuries, but we hope the city continues to learn from it.
