Knights of Columbus holds appreciation event at St. Catherine's in Redwood Falls

Redwood Falls Gazette - 5/22/2017

The 2017 Knights of Columbus appreciation event took place April 27, 2017 at St. Catherine's Church in Redwood Falls.

There were 60 Knights and guests in attendance for this annual event.

Guest speakers were Cathy Morris, Mariah Frank, Tate Goodthunder and Nolan Smith who shared about their involvement in the Unified Special Olympics Club at Redwood Valley. It has been a club for almost two years and meets monthly during the school day as well as numerous activities year round. The group is led by their passionate advisor Cathy Morris.

The Knights of Columbus has a long history of supporting Special Olympics at an international and local level, which continues to be true today.

The entertainment for the evening was Laura Horejsi and daughter Klaira. They shared their family's history of music and faith while performing four different types of religious music. If you attend Old SOD Day in Belview you may see the two perform. Klaira, who is now eight years old, has performed for the last four years.

The night's KC program was enjoyed by all.

Each year the St. Catherine's Knights of Columbus honors one Knight and one family that live up to the mission of The Knights of Columbus.

This year, Gene Gores was honored as Knight of the Year for his many years of service to the Knights of Columbus and the parish. He received a can of green beans from Duane Frank, grand knight, for the volunteer work he does helping with the monthly adult and Family Faith Formation meals.

At these meals Gores has become known to many as "Green Bean Gene" because he always serves the green beans.

The Ryan and Erica Pope family was honored as St. Catherine's Family of the Year as a family demonstrating Christian values and for their volunteer involvement with the Knights of Columbus, parish and community.
