Northwest Iowans honored by Special Olympics

SIOUX CITY | Dr. Tom Molstad of Sioux City and Lyle and Katrina Howard of Spencer, Iowa, were recognized by Special Olympics Iowa on May 25 at the Summer Games Opening Ceremonies at Iowa State University for their involvement and dedication to the Special Olympics.

Molstad was named Outstanding Adult Volunteer of the Year. Athletes are given free physical examinations by Molstad, who is also an advocate for the Special Olympics in schools.

The Howards were named Outstanding Family of the Year for their support of the Special Olympics. The pair volunteers as coaches, helps with fundraisers and recruits other volunteers. Their daughters are also involved with the Special Olympics, one as a Unified Partner and one as an athlete.
