Rosenberg officers to serve dinner, collect tips for Special Olympics

Sugar Land Sun - 7/26/2017

Members of numerous local law enforcement and public safety agencies in the Gulf Coast area, including the Rosenberg Police Department, will trade in their handcuffs for serving aprons when the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) hosts its annual Tip A Cop Night to benefit Special Olympics Texas (SOTX), at three Texas Roadhouse locations in the Gulf Coast area, on Thursday, July 27, from 5:30?9 p.m. During the dinner shift, officers will serve tables and collect tips, which will be turned in as donations to SOTX at the end of the night.

One of three participating locations, which is subject to cancellation without notice, is the Texas Roadhouse at 24020 Southwest Freeway in Rosenberg.

The other locations are in Pearland at 2526 Smith Ranch Road and in Friendswood at 18194 Gulf Freeway. The public is invited and encouraged to dine at any of the three participating Texas Roadhouse locations and "Tip A Cop" for his/her dedicated effort to support SOTX athletes. All tips will go toward providing SOTX programming for more than 2,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities in the Gulf Coast area.

This event operates under the LETR, which is SOTX's largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. Through efforts like Tip A Cop Night, Texas LETR raised more than $1.4 million in 2016 to support more than 58,300 SOTX athletes across the state.

Contributions can be made via cash, check or credit card. For more information, contact Pam Hollaway (phollaway@sotx.org) at 281-218-6024.

The LETR is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation. Since getting its start in Texas, Torch Run has contributed more than $26 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX. The support provided by this group has contributed to programs in local communities, which involve more than 58,300 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state.

SOTX is a privately funded non-profit organization that changes lives through the power of sport by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities, promoting acceptance for all, and fostering communities of understanding and respect. SOTX provides continuing opportunities for more than 58,300 children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the Lone Star State to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy and friendship.
