Shoe drive to benefit Ashland boy

Sept. 28--ASHLAND A shoe fundraiser conducted by 4 Paws for Ability will be Sunday through Nov. 30. Proceeds will help Logan Carver, 3, get a service dog.

The Ashland boy has autism and mixed receptive expressive language disorder.

The 4 Paws for Ability organization will earn funds based on the total weight of pairs of gently worn and new shoes collected. Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes.

Gently worn or new shoes may be dropped off at the following locations:

- State Electric in Huntington

- South Point Early Childhood Center

- Go Green Cleaners in Ashland

Donated shoes are also redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise (small-business) partners. Proceeds from the sales of collected shoes in fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house families.

"We are excited about our shoe drive," said Carly Carver, a parent volunteer with 4 Paws for Ability.

"We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for Logan Carver's service dog, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It's a win-win for everyone."

The 4 Paws for Ability organization has a mission to place quality service dogs with children with disabilities and veterans who have lost use of limbs or hearing; help with animal rescue; and educate the public about the use of service dogs in public places.
