Premium Waters Gives To Special Olympics

The Greeneville Sun - 10/13/2017

The Greene County Special Olympics program recently received a big boost from Premium Waters in Greeneville.

Carol Hall, director of Greene County Special Olympics Area 35, said she received a call from Don Myers, plant manager of Premium Waters, 1616 Industrial Road.

"He informed me that Area 35 had been voted to receive a $5,000 award. This money is set aside by Premium Waters for a local non-profit organization. Plant employees voted and we were the very fortunate winners," Hall said.

Special Olympics Tennessee is divided into 33 volunteer area offices, which focus on providing services and delivering programs for over 17,000 athletes in the state.

Hall said that Area 35, which covers Greene County, "is a newly formed Special Olympic group and thanks to local donations, we have been able to purchase many items needed to start a new area and pay for many of local and state events and competitions."

"It's our wish to thank Don Myers and all of the Premium Waters employees for this generous donation. Any money donated to Greene County Area 35 Special Olympics benefits our local athletes exclusively," Hall said.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, "giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community," according to the Special Olympics Tennessee website.
