Samantha Rodningen, a behavior technician at One Vision Children's Autism Center in Clear Lake, received the Stephen Tsai Award for Excellence in autism education from the Autism Society of Iowa at the group's annual conference, Nov. 3, in West Des Moines. The annual award recognizes an outstanding individual in Iowa who has made an impact on individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Rodningen, 19, of Clear Lake, has been employed at the Children's Autism Center since November 2014. She is the youngest person to receive the Tsai Award.

Mason City native and NIACC grad Cory Lockwood received the University of Iowa Outstanding Staff Excellence Award for the Iowa Memorial union. Lockwood is the associate director for event and facility operations at IMU, and he helped the post-flood revitalization and reoccupation of the IMU ground floor.

Rachel Hosefelder joined WWA Architecture + Planning as a senior designer. A native of Germany, Hosefelder attended NIACC and earned a master's degree from Leibritz in Hanover, Germany.

Dr. Chad McCambridge, program director at Mercy Medical Center?North Iowa's Family Medicine Residency, was named the 2017 Iowa Medical Educator of the Year at the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians' annual banquet, Nov. 3, in Des Moines. The award recognizes "a physician who provides outstanding quality in family practice education. Nominees are submitted by students, practicing physicians and educators," according to a release.

Elizabeth Evans, a graduate of Mason City High School, has been selected to be a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship for 2018. Evans is the author of six works of fiction, including "As Good as Dead," "Carter Clay," and "The Blue Hour." Evans currently lives in Tucson, Arizona where she is professor emeritus of the Program in Creative Writing at the University of Arizona.

The State Historical Society of Iowa has named Forest City native Hannah Frederick as the new coordinator of the Montauk Historic Site near Clermont. She has been the collection manager and volunteer coordinator for the Ames Historical Society the past five years and will begin her new position Nov. 27. Frederick received her bachelor's degree from Iowa State and her master's degree from Oklahoma. Over the past 12 years, she has lived and worked in Ames.

Shannon Bruhns recently joined Forest City-based Lichtsinn RV as a RV sales consultant. Bruhns graduated from Lake Mills and attended NIACC and Waldorf, and she was previously a quality leader at Cummins Filtration. Bruhns lives in Lake Mills with her husband.

Timothy S. Fox, executive director of the Charles City Area Development Corporation, has been recertified as a professional community economic developer by the Community Development Council. Fox has been employed with the Charles City Area Development Corporation since 1998.

Kevin Breister recently joined Forest City-based Lichtsinn RV as a business manager. This position was previously held by Dan Helgeson who was recently promoted to the position of director of F&I and business development. Breister graduated from Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and attended NIACC. He most recently was a sales manager at Chrysler of Forest City.

Lonnie Fox, parts director at Forest City-based Lichtsinn RV, recently celebrated his 30th year of employment with the RV dealership.

Osage native Julia Ham was recently honored with the Dr. John A. Gazaway Endowed Scholarship at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. The award recognizes a student from Iowa with a commitment to the pursuit of private practice optometry. The honor comes with a $2,000 monetary award. Ham earned a bachelors degree from Luther.

Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics announced the addition of Dr. Suzanne Kuhnen to its Clarion and Belmond locations. She provides cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. She earned her medical degree from Ohio; completed a residency in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; and completed a fellowship at Mercy Medical Center.

Clear Lake-based North Iowa Collision Center was certified by Assured Performance, a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization, for maintaining the right tools, equipment, training, and facility necessary to repair the participating Automaker brand vehicles according to the manufacturer's specifications. Fewer than 5 percent of U.S. body shops have the designation, according to a release. NICC is already certified by FCA, Nissan and Hyundai.

Harriman-Nielsen Historic Farm in Hampton received the Outstanding Preservation in Agriculture Award from the Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area at its Golden Silo Awards and Barn Party, Nov. 10, in Decorah. The award recognizes "an individual, organization, project, business, agency, or local government who has shown extraordinary effort in preserving the icons of American agriculture," according to a release.

The Mason City Clinic Charitable Giving Committee recently awarded grants to several organizations in the North Iowa area. Established in 1990, the committee "supports funding for projects that enhance health, safety and educational programs in North Iowa communities," according to a release. 2017 awards include: My Happy Haven ($1,500), One Vision ($1,700), Charles H. MacNider Art Museum ($3,000), Francis Lauer Youth Services ($2,500), Mason City Schools Art Department ($2,100), NIACC Foundation ($15,000), Newman Foundation ($5,000), Exceptional Opportunities ($600), Mason City Schools ($2,000), Rake First Responders, ($550), Charlie Brown Day Care Center ($2,550), and City of Mason City ($10,000).

The Floyd County Medical Center Foundation created an endowment fund Nov. 15 with the Floyd County Community Foundation. Proceeds from the fund will assist with capital projects, operations and equipment at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, according to a release. For more information, visit floydccf.org.

Winnebago County Relay for Life received $4,000 from the Walking Eagles team for 2018. The Walking Eagles were founded in 2005 by employees of FCIS in Forest City and has raised more than $42,000 for the Winnebago Relay group. This year's Relay for Life is scheduled for June 23 on the Winnebago County Courthouse square.

Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation recently announced the expansion of a program to reduce childhood hunger in Iowa by providing access to nutritious food at home. The Power Snack program will provide thousands of families in need with $5 coupons for sliced or shaved ham and $3 coupons for a loaf of whole wheat bread. This is the fifth year of the program. Mitchell County schools participating include Riceville and St. Ansgar.
