Toledo Community Foundation awards grants totaling $12,000 to support Youth Programs

TOLEDO, March 13 2018: The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. recently approved grants totaling $12,000 from the Bill Rowles Youth Foundation Fund to support programs in northwest Ohio that enhance the lives of young people under the age of 18. Grants were awarded to seven area nonprofit organizations:

* Autism Model School - a $1,500 grant was awarded to support equipment upgrades for the Star program.

* Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center- a $2,992 grant was awarded to support the delivery of child abuse awareness and prevention training.

* Good Grief of Northwest Ohio - a $1,704 grant was awarded to start a summer day camp for children and families who have lost a loved one.

* Harvey House - a $1,704 grant was awarded to support a drop-in center that serves LGBTQ+ youth in northwest Ohio.

* Leading Families Home - a $1,500 grant was awarded to support the costs of extracurricular activities for homeless children.

* Redeemer Lutheran Church - a $1,500 grant was awarded to support the cost of providing meals to afterschool and summer programs.

* Serenity Farm Equestrian Center - a $1,100 grant was awarded to support an equine-based experiential learning program for elementary school students with disabilities.

Katherine R. Smith Funds for Youth award grants totaling $39,700

March 13, 2018: The Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. and the Waterville Community Foundation approved grants totaling $39,700 from the Katherine R. Smith Funds for Youth to support programs in northwest Ohio that enhance the lives of young people under the age of 18. Grants were awarded to eight area nonprofit organizations:

* Autism Model School - a $4,200 grant was awarded to support the Shooting Stars summer program.

* AWAKE - a $5,500 grant was awarded to support drug and alcohol prevention programming in the Anthony Wayne School District

* Camp Courageous & The Arc ofNorthwest Ohio - a $5,000 grant was awarded to support summer day camp activities for youth with developmental disabilities.

* Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center - a $4,200 grant was awarded to support the Children's Advocacy Center.

* First Presbyterian Church - a $7,300 grant was awarded to expand and evaluate an emotional literacy program for youth in the Anthony Wayne School Dis?

* Ridge Project, Inc. - a $4,200 grant was awarded to support a program that serves juvenile offenders at the Lucas County Youth Treatment Center.

* Sunshine Residential and Support Services - a $2,800 grant was awarded to support the equine program.

* Waterville Rotary Foundation - a $6,500 grant was awarded to support Anthony Wayne High School Interact Club activities.

The Katherine R. Smith Funds for Youth provide support for programming that enhances the lives of young people up to age 18, with an emphasis on serving children with developmental disabilities or those who have been abused. Any organization with services benefitting youth residing in Lucas or Wood Counties are encouraged to apply, with preference given to those that serve residents ofWaterville and the Anthony Wayne Local School District.
