BRIEF: Chuck E. Cheese's offering 'Sensory Sensitive Sundays' for kids with autism in South Florida

South Florida Sun Sentinel - 4/6/2018

April 06--Chuck E. Cheese's is launching an autism-friendly day the first Sunday of each month for children with autism and special needs.

The entertainment and party venue will open its doors two hours early for "Sensory Sensitive Sundays'' at some locations. In South Florida, those venues include Boca Raton, Hialeah, Miami and West Palm Beach.

The idea is to provide smaller crowds, less noise and dimmed lighting for kids with autism. There may also be limited appearances by costumed characters and music may be turned off or turned down during shows.

"Our tagline is where a kid can be a kid, and we want to ensure we extend this ideal to kids who otherwise may not be able to enjoy Chuck E. Cheese's due to the sensory overload," said Ami Anderson, senior director of advertising and media at CEC Entertainment, in a release. There will also be food and games.

Due to Easter last week, the program will start April 8, followed by May 7, June 4, July 2. The South Florida locations participating are: 21699 State Road 7 in Boca Raton; 3805 West 20th Ave., in Hialeah; 8701 SW 124th Ave., in Miami, and 2471 Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach.
