Taking The Slalom One Gold At A Time

Ryan Krug of Manhasset returned from the Vermont Special Olympics Winter Games in Mendon with three gold medals.

Pico Mountain hosted the Vermont Special Olympics Winter Games from March 18 to 20. Krug, a member of the Hermitage at Haystack Team, participated in the Slalom, Giant Slalom and the Super G events, winning a gold medal in each event.

Krug, who is 13 years old, lives in Manhasset with his parents Mike and Angela as well as his siblings Katarina and Eric, while his grandparents live in Port Washington. Krug attends the Manhasset Middle School, where he is in the seventh grade. He was born with Down Syndrome and has been participating in The Vermont Special Olympics for five years.

Krug was also named Athlete of The Year for Special Olympics Vermont. He trains at The Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain in Wilmington, VT, with his coaches Corey Robinson, Kate Riley and Scott Serota.
