PAPER SHREDDING DAY: Keep Covington Beautiful is sponsoring a paper-shredding opportunity from 9 a.m. to noonApril 21 in the employee parking lot of Covington City Hall, 317 N. Jefferson Ave. Covington-area residents are invited to bring up to three boxes (about 10 inches by 12 inches by 18 inches) of paper documents to be securely shredded on-site. The shredded paper will be recycled. There is no need to remove paper clips, staples, clasps in folders or rubber bands. Items that will not be accepted include phone books, hardback books, magazines, plastics, cassettes and video tapes.

BRCA-THON: The BRCA-Thon walk and bike ride to promote cancer awareness will begin at 8 a.m.April 21 at the Mandeville Trailhead, 675 Lafitte St. The event is organized by Hannah's Klozèt, a nonprofit cancer awareness organization founded by Corinne Villavaso in 2016 in memory of a cousin who died of breast cancer. Participants will cycle and walk along the Mandeville lakefront and the Tammany Trace, then gather for a reception with refreshments and live music. Also, the Hannah's Klozèt Foundation will honor state Rep. Julie Stokes, of Kenner, with its Perseverance Award. Nature's Notebook is a national program of phenology, which examines the timing of biological events such as flowering, leafing, hibernation, migration and reproduction. TAMMANY: Applications are being accepted through April 30 for the Leadership St. Tammany Class of 2019, which will include about 30 emerging and established community leaders who will be offered an in-depth look into the inner workings of government, business, civic and cultural organizations in St. Tammany Parish. Heats will begin on the half-hour from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The first leg of the race is a 1.5-mile run through downtown Covington to Bogue Falaya Park for the obstacle course, which will be followed by a half-mile upstream paddle to the Chimes of Covington, 19130 Rogers Lane.
