Knights of Columbus makes donations

Greensburg Daily News - 7/7/2018

July 07--GREENSBURG -- City of Greensburg and Decatur County residents have once again shown they take care of their community.

Recently, the local Knights of Columbus Hall No. 1042 donated $1,777 to the Decatur County Special Olympics, $500 to St. Mary's Catholic School, and $1,000 to Gibault Children's Services. All of the funding will go toward assisting those with special needs.

The total of monies donated comes to $3,277.

The Knights of Columbus continued their tradition of donating to this cause. Local Knights of Columbus member Steve Clevenger says they contribute financially each year. Clevenger says there were approximately 50 people involved in making this possible.

Clevenger presented the checks to Special Olympics Ambassador Mike Lewis.

"This is why I belong to the Knights of Columbus," Clevenger said of the community donations. "I'm very grateful I'm able to help those around me."

The Knights of Columbus says this donation will help approximately 200 adults and children involved in the Special Olympics.

"We just wanted to help and wanted to show the public where the money is going," said Clevenger.

Members from the group made their way out to Broadway Street and to Needler's Fresh Market in order to seek donations from the community to support the Special Olympics.

In addition to the monetary donations, the Knights of Columbus has helped bring necessities for Olympians. For example, in 2016, the Knights of Columbus, in partnership with the Decatur County Parks Department and Special Olympics, dedicated a new practice Bocce Ball court for practice use of the Special Olympics.

The Knights of Columbus's donations to Gibault and St. Mary's will both go toward the special education programs.

Over the years, they've also contributed funding to victims of disaster by holding benefits to raise money.

And once again, they've given back.
