G-ASD hosting substitute fair

The Record Herald - 7/24/2018

July 24--"Do you like kids?" "Are you are parent?"

People who answer "yes" to those questions are "more than qualified" for some of the substitute opportunities in the Greencastle-Antrim School District, according to Tina Clever, human resources director.

They can learn more at the fifth annual substitute employee job fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in the Greencastle-Antrim Middle School cafeteria, 370 S. Ridge Ave.

Clever brought the idea for the first job fair to then-superintendent Dr. C. Gregory Hoover because she had done a similar event while working at Citibank.

"I can't believe this is the fifth one. It has brought people in to see us that I don't know if we otherwise would have seen," she said, adding some of the substitutes have moved on to full-time positions with the district.

Many people in the community, however, do not think they are qualified for the jobs. That's where being a parent or liking kids comes in. Substituting can also be a good fit for parents because the jobs follow the school year.

The district will be looking for substitute cafeteria workers, van drivers, bus aides, traffic control personnel, on-call security, classroom aides, noontime aides and registered and practical nurses.

Contractors also will be on hand, including Source4Teachers/ESS, substitute teachers; various transportation contractors, school bus drivers; and Metz Environmental Services, custodians, groundskeepers and maintenance workers.

"This also lets the community come in and see what we're all about, we're not just a facility where your children are educated," Clever said.

Those attending will have an opportunity to talk with administrators and department directors at the job fair.
