Autism Speaks plans annual Chefs Create Gala

Nov. 09--Autism Speaks will hold its annual fundraising Chefs Create Gala at 7 p.m.Nov. 15 in the Fairmont Hotel, 510 Market St., Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Pirates announcer Joe Block will serve as emcee of the culinary extravaganza, according to a news release.

The event will feature 10 of Pittsburgh's finest chefs creating their signature small plate tastings for guests.

Silent and live auctions, raffle prizes and other entertainment all are planned while guests enjoy a menu inspired by the favorite foods of local children on the autism spectrum, the release adds.

David and Carrie Work and their son Zach, of Fox Chapel, will share their story as the program's special guests.

Throughout the past six years, the Western Pennsylvania community has supported Autism Speaks, with more than $2.8 million coming back to the region.

Funding has been directed to 22 institutions and organizations to provide critical funding for research, education and outreach initiatives for families facing autism in the community, according to the release.

Participating chefs include Mark DiClemente, Bobby D's BBQ; Anthony Marino, Don's Appliances; Dwight Penney, the Fairmont Hotel; Adam Reson, fl.2; Josh Ross, Pirata; John Selick, Sodexo, university hospitals; Len Spampianato, Papa Gallo Cucina; Derek Stevens, the Union Standard; Eric Von Hansen, Caliente Pizza & Draft House; and Luke Wholey, Luke Wholey'sWild Alaskan Grille.
