Ada auto theft suspect wanted in Norman assault case

Ada Evening News - 11/23/2018

Nov. 23--Authorities say an Ada man, charged with grand larceny in a Nov. 14 auto theft, is being held without bond in the Pontotoc County Justice Center.

Sheriff John Christian said his office was notified by Cleveland County authorities that the man is wanted in connection with a domestic assault in Norman, in which he is alleged to have beaten a woman with a bat.

Christian said deputies were called to a home in the 12000 block of County Road 3514 around 8 a.m.Nov. 14 on a report of a stolen vehicle. Records indicate a homeowner told deputies her daughter started the family's black, 2012 Dodge Charger then went back inside the home. When the daughter returned to the driveway, the car was gone.

On their way to meet the homeowner, deputies were notified that a state trooper had a vehicle matching that description stopped at West Broadway Avenue and Davis Road in Byng. The vehicle's license plate was registered to the homeowner who reported it missing.

The driver of the vehicle, Thomas Gilbert Sifuentes, 35, of Ada, was arrested and transported to the Pontotoc County Justice Center.

Records indicate Sifuentes told deputies he was being "set up" and that "he took the car because there was a little girl playing in the woods and some bad people are after him." Deputies report Sifuentes told them "he needed to go into witness protection because of these people."

Records indicate Sifuentes told deputies he had used methamphetamine the night before.

Sifuentes was charged with grand larceny in connection with the theft and is scheduled to appear in Pontotoc County District Court at 2 p.m.Dec. 5.

Christian said his office was later notified by Norman police that Sifuentes is a suspect in an assault and battery with a dangerous weapon case in Cleveland County.

"Sifuentes is accused of beating a woman with a bat in Norman," Christian said Tuesday by email. "A hold with no bond has been placed on Sifuentes by Cleveland County."
