TODAY: Witness at Meagan Work hearing to testify about seeing child abuse

Austin American-Statesman - 11/27/2018

Nov. 27--Meagan Work's sentencing hearing in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son, Colton Turner, continues Tuesday and will likely include testimony from a man who told authorities he saw Work slamming the child's head against a truck before he died.

Work, 24, will be punished this week after pleading guilty this summer to injury to a child and tampering with evidence. She faces five to 99 years in prison.

State District Judge David Wahlberg, who is listening to testimony this week before rendering Work's punishment, will hear from Robert Coe, a witness who said he saw Work strike Turner on July 7, 2014. Work's boyfriend, Michael Turner, worked nearby. Coe told police he saw Work hitting and shaking the child before slamming Colton's head into a truck.

Coe is expected to take the witness stand Tuesday.

The sentencing hearing is expected to last through Thursday. It got underway Monday with testimony from several of Work's friends who shared stories Work had told them about the child's well-being and whereabouts.
