Firefighter faces molestation charge

Dec. 02--DeFUNIAK SPRINGS -- A Panama City Beach firefighter was in jail Saturday after he charged with lewd and lascivious assault on a child under 12 years old, according to the Walton County Sheriff's Office.
Joseph Burtis Middlebrooks III, 48, of Inlet Beach, turned himself in about 3 p.m. after an arrest warrant was issued, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
The victim told sheriff's deputies Thursday that Middlebrooks touched in her inappropriately over the course of a year. The victim said he told her not to tell anyone because it would ruin his life, the press release said.
Middlebrooks has helped coach girls volleyball in Panama City Beach for several years, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Middlebrooks was being held in the Walton County Jail without bond.
