Couple arrested on domestic violence against each other

The Record-Eagle - 12/3/2018

Dec. 03--TRAVERSE CITY -- A drunken attempt to break windows resulted in two arrests relating to domestic violence.

Traverse City police responded to a call Sunday around 2 p.m. on the 800 block of East Front Street for a disorderly man trying to break windows of an apartment. Police noted the man was highly intoxicated when they arrived.

The 34-year-old Traverse City man previously had been in the residence drinking with several other people, including a 31-year-old woman -- reportedly his girlfriend, police Chief Jeff O'Brien said.

Witnesses stated he slapped her across the face several times, O'Brien said.

The man was kicked out of the apartment, but tried to break the windows to get back in, and another man told him to leave, O'Brien said.

Police are requesting charges of drunk and disorderly conduct, domestic assault and resisting and obstructing a police officer. The man was ordered to lean against the rear bumper of the patrol car, but took off running toward the apartment and the woman. Police officers tackled him, O'Brien said. There were no injuries reported.

The woman, also of Traverse City, was under arrest for violating bond, which stated she wasn't to have contact with the male suspect for his protection, O'Brien said. She had a criminal bench warrant for domestic violence against her.
