Perv basketball coach gets 20 years in prison for molesting two 8-year-old girls

The New York Daily News - 12/18/2018

Dec. 18--A former basketball coach will spend 20 years behind bars for molesting two little girls at an Upper West Side school.

Channing Parker, 23, received the two-decade sentence in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Parker pleaded guilty in October to forcing an 8-year-old girl to perform oral sex on him at the IDEAL School of Manhattan on W. 91st St. on March 10, 2017.

He also confessed to attacking another child, 8, two days earlier. Both kids were students at the school and participated in his after-school athletic group.

The young victims wrote heart-wrenching victim statements, which were read in court.

"Something really bad and embarrassing and scary happened to me. My basketball coach asked me to pull my shirt up and I was scared and didn't want to do it, but I couldn't really fight it," one child's mother, who asked not to be named, read from her daughter's victim impact statement.

"He trapped me in the bathroom," her mother continued. "I am very afraid of men who look like him. I'm afraid of being near anyone named 'coach.'"

Both girls had to change schools after the assaults.

"I'm really glad justice is being served. It's a never-ending story. I don't know how long it's going to take. Our daughter is still a very nervous child," one crying mother said after sharing her daughter's painful words.

"At least everybody is safe and he learned his lesson. I hope no one ever gets hurt by him again," the second victim's statement read. Her mother fought back tears as she read her daughter's statement.

"It's pretty scary and no one wants that to happen. I want everybody to be safe in this world," the girl's mother read.

Parker will have to register as a sex offender and will be monitored for 15 additional years after he is released..
