Springfield News-Sun - 3/23/2019

March 23-- Mar. 23--A Clark County man that pleaded guilty to rape of a child under the age of 13 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Douglas Lovelock, 62, of Donnelsville, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Clark County Common Pleas Court on two counts of rape. As a result of the plea, two counts of gross sexual imposition were dismissed.

Clark County Assistant Prosecutor Aaron Heskett said Lovelock was sentenced immediately following his plea.

Heskett said Lovelock did know the victim and that the child was elementary school aged.

"The child victim was elementary school aged and known to the defendant," Heskett said. "There was one child victim in this case and the offenses occurred on separate occasions at different places."

Heskett said he did not want to elaborate on any more specific details of the offenses, in order to protect the child victim from further trauma.

Lovelock will also be listed as a Tier III sex offender for the rest of his life, Heskett said.

In the state of Ohio, a Tier III sex offender is defined as a sex offender whose offense is punishable by imprisonment for more than one year and has also attempted or committed aggravated sexual abuse or abusive sexual contact against a minor under the age of 13. It is the highest tier of sexual offender.

Lovelock will now be transferred to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections Correctional Reception Center in Orient, where he will be processed and then transferred to another prison, Heskett said.
