Court Roundup: Molestation case dropped against Stillwater man

March 23-- Mar. 23--A Stillwater man who had been accused of lewd molestation had the charge dismissed earlier this month. James Maudlin, 27, was charged in December, along with a count of meth possession. The misdemeanor drug possession charge is still being pursued.

A mother had claimed her child had complained of pain in its private area after she left the child overnight with Maudlin. He was charged Nov. 18. In February Maudlin was scheduled for a preliminary hearing set for March 6. Witnesses were subpoenaed in February. The State motioned to dismiss the count during the March 6 hearing and the court accepted after no objections.

Maudlin will return to court on the misdemeanor docket May 7.

Parents of newborn who had meth in system set to appear

Payne County parents who were both charged with child neglect after a newborn died with meth in its system are both scheduled to appear in court this week. Kyle and Lonna Stokes have each pleaded not guilty in the case stemming from the December incident. Lonna Stokes is accused of using meth on the same day of her delivery. The child was delivered with a low heartbeat and no-respiration and died shortly after.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled Monday for Lonna Stokes, while Kyle Stokes is due in court Thursday.

Stillwater man pleads not guilty in sex crimes case

A Stillwater man who was awaiting trail in Noble County for multiple sex crimes when he was accused with child sex abuse in Payne County pleaded not guilty last week in Payne County District Court. Jessie Lee Armstrong-Monson, 31, was provided a court-appointed attorney. He has a 9 a.m.April 1 arraignment scheduled in Payne County. Pre-trial trial in his Noble County case is set to begin April.

Armstrong-Monson is accused of child sexual abuse, domestic strangulation and first-degree rape in Payne County. He is accused of child sexual abuse, lewd acts and forcible sodomy in Noble County.

Woman pleads not guilty to child abuse

A Stillwater woman who was accused of fighting a 15-year-old -- who claimed to be attempting to remove drug paraphernalia from the residence -- has pleaded not guilty in Payne County District Court. Mary Barnett, 34, is charged with one count of child abuse. The alleged victim told police she was trying to get drug paraphernalia out of the house to protect another child in the residence when the adults in the house became upset. Barnett is accused of striking the teen multiple times.

Her preliminary hearing is set for May 6.
