Domestic violence awareness walk is Saturday in Jacksonville

Florida Times-Union - 3/24/2019

March 24-- Mar. 24--Hubbard House will host its 10th annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk on Saturday at the Duval County Courthouse in downtown Jacksonville.

The nonprofit is a full-service certified domestic violence center providing prevention and intervention to survivors and their families in Duval and Baker counties. The organization asked the Jacksonville community "to stand up for victims of domestic violence and stride toward awareness, empowerment and social change."

The "Stand Up and Stride" walk is intended to create awareness of domestic violence and raise money to help Hubbard House continue providing life-saving and life-changing shelter and other help to survivors. The event also will celebrate citizens making a difference for a decade, organizers said.

The event begins at 8:00 a.m. at the courthouse, 501 W. Adams St., when the Family Fun Zone opens and check-in starts for the walk. At 8:50 a.m., there will be a brief program, including remarks from Gail Patin, chief executive officer of Hubbard House. The walk will begin at 9 a.m.

About 1,300 participants are expected to walk, raise awareness and enjoy family friendly activities before and after the event as they help Hubbard House celebrate a decade of making a difference, according to organizers.

Individuals in an abusive relationship -- or know someone who is -- are urged to call Hubbard House's 24-hour domestic violence hotline at (904) 354-3114. Information also is available at https://www.hubbardhouse.org.
