Grandfather charged with first-degree sexual abuse

Times West Virginian - 11/10/2019

Nov. 10--FAIRMONT -- A 74-year-old Fairmont man faces charges of sexually abusing a family member on three occasions in 2012 in the White Hall area, according to criminal complaints.

Charles W. Moore Jr. of 1421 Briarwood Ln., Fairmont, is charged in three separate criminal complaints with first-degree sexual abuse involving a female child under age 12. In one of the complaints, he is also charged with three counts of sexual abuse by a parent guardian or custodian.

The complaints with only the first-degree sexual abuse charges describe incidents that took place on June 1, 2012 and July 1, 2012. The complaint with both the first-degree sexual abuse charge and the sexual abuse by a parent guardian or custodian charges describe an incident from Aug. 1, 2012.

The court papers state that a detective with the Marion County Sheriff's Office was forwarded an investigation on Sept. 12, 2019 of the child abuse report. The complaint states that a family member of the victim told police that the 12-year-old victim disclosed sexual abuse by Moore from 2012, that took place when she was 5 years old, near Moore's residence in the White Hall area.

In one incident, the child said Moore pulled down her pants inappropriately touched her buttocks.

According to the court papers, Moore told the victim to "not tell anyone."

Court records show Moore's total bail of $40,036 was posted and he is out of jail.
