Man found guilty of sexually abusing 5-year-old girl faces up to 59 years imprisonment

Nov. 12--A man accused of sexually abusing a five-year-old girl was found guilty by a jury after a three-day trial, which ended on Nov. 8.

Troy Quattlander, 39, was found guilty of two counts of criminal penetration of a minor under 13 years old; one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor under 13 years old, unclothed; one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor under 13 years old clothed; one count of possession of drug paraphernalia; and one count of distribution of sexually oriented material to a minor.

On June 13, 2017, an Alamogordo Police department detective investigated the allegation of sexual abuse; the report was originally made to the Tularosa Police Department.

During a child forensic interview at Kids, Inc., the five-year-old said she had been sexually assaulted between July 12 and October 30, 2016 by Quattlander.

Alamogordo Police executed a search warrant for Quattlander's residence and mobile phone. Two pipes containing marijuana residue were also found in his residence.

During an interview with police, Quattlander initially denied abusing the child and said he was never alone with her, however, a certified computer forensic analyst found on his mobile phone multiple web searches of pornographic material which involved children under 13 years old.

When confronted with the evidence in a second interview, Quattlander admitted to molesting the child.

During the trial, Quattlander testified on his own behalf, telling jurors he had given the police a false confession.

After a roughly hour-long deliberation, the jury found Quattlander guilty on all counts.

Quattlander faces 18 to 59 years imprisonment at a sentencing hearing in the coming months. If he is later released, Quattlander will be required to serve parole and will be required to register as a sex offender.
