Man gets 50 years for sexual abuse of child

Corsicana Daily Sun - 12/12/2019

Dec. 12--Daniel Burks pleaded guilty to the offense of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14-years-old and two counts of sexual assault of a child Dec. 10 in the 13th Judicial District of Navarro County.

Judge James Lagomarsino sentenced Burks to 50 years in prison for the continuous sexual abuse charge, and 15 years each for the counts of sexual abuse of a child.

Criminal District Attorney William "Will" Dixon and Assistant District Attorney Ken Leatherman prosecuted the case.

"This is a wonderful outcome," Dixon stated. "The victim received justice without having to relive her abuse in trial. We cannot permit adults to prey on our children. My office will continue to zealously prosecute the depraved men and women who harm our kids. We will not tolerate sexual abuse of children in Navarro County."

"Normally the District Attorney's Office shares a brief summary of the facts, but doing so in this instance might lead to the discovery of the identity of the victim." he stated. "The Navarro County District Attorney's Office wishes to protect sexual assault victims, especially young victims. They are some of the most vulnerable among us."

The Corsicana Police Department investigated the case.

"CPD did an excellent investigation and helped the victim receive justice," Dixon stated. "Their police work on this case was top notch."
