Hartford Courant - 4/20/2024

A Waterbury man is facing charges after police allege he fatally stabbed his wife in a domestic violence dispute while a young child was in the home, officials said.

Allen Bell, 35, was arrested Friday after officers responded to a domestic disturbance around 5 a.m. on East Main Street. Responding officers located Bell and a 43-year-old woman inside the residence. She was pronounced dead from a fatal stab wound to the neck.

Bell and his wife lived together in the home along with a 5-year-old child who was present and unharmed during the incident. The child has since been placed in the custody of the CT Department of Children and Families, according to police.

Bell was charged with murder and risk of injury to a minor and is being held by police on a $1 million dollar bond pending court arraignment.

The Waterbury Police Department encourages any victims of domestic violence to seek support. Domestic violence is a pervasive issue that affects individuals and families from all walks of life, it is imperative that those experiencing such situations know that help and support is available,” Waterbury police said in a press release.
