Hays professors to talk about domestic violence at Salina event

Two Fort Hays State University professors will be featured speakers at a community-wide education and prevention program in Salina targeting relationship violence.

During the free event set for 7 p.m.March 9 in Sams Chapel at Kansas Wesleyan University,Curt and Christie Brungardt will focus on preventing domestic and dating violence, sexual violence and stalking. They also will share the story of their daughter, Jana Mackey, who was killed by an ex-boyfriend.

Since Jana died in 2008, the Brungardts started Jana's Campaign to mobilize others to make a difference in the global movement to eliminate gender and relationship violence, which currently is experienced by one in three people, according to a press release about the event.

The event is being hosted by Partners for Violence Reduction, a collaborative initiative facilitated by the Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas and supported by Salina Area United Way. The event is being sponsored by KWU and Kansas State University Polytechnic.
