Woman learns she shares name of Georgia sex offender: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio

General assistance, Maplewood Road:

A woman said Feb. 16 her name showed up as being a sex offender in Georgia when she was applying for an apartment lease. She said the offender had the same name but she is not that person. Officers told her to contact the company the apartment facility uses for background checks to clear up the information. They also confirmed for her that her identity does not show up in the criminal database.

Disturbance, Golden Gate Boulevard:

Officers responded to the Comfort InnFeb. 17 for a report of a man swearing in the lobby. They located the Mayfield Heights man, 22, in his room and returned him to the station due to an active warrant out of Beachwood. He was turned over to officers from that city and told not to return to the Comfort Inn property.

Welfare check, Crestwood Road:

Officers responded to a home Feb. 22 for an anonymous report of a girl, 17, involved in a dispute with her 24-year-old brother because she had stayed out late at her boyfriend's house without permission. The girl said she was afraid of her brother and wanted to be taken away from her family. She said in her family's religion, men are superior and it is OK for them to abuse women. She told officers her brother had threatened her the previous day due to an Instagram post she made. Officers learned the man had been convicted in 2016 for aggravated menacing and disorderly conduct in Mayfield Village and Highland Heights for threats made to his girlfriend. The current incident is under review and child and family services has been contacted.

Suspicion, Washington Boulevard:

A resident reported at 2:55 a.m.Feb. 19 he saw someone break into his neighbor's vehicle. Officers located the suspect, a 17-year-old Mayfield Heights boy, walking on the road. He was in possession of a prescription bottle that was later learned to have been stolen from the truck. He was later released to his grandmother.

Fraud, Mayfield Road:

Officers responded to AT&T Mobility Feb. 19 for a report of a man who presented a fraudulent driver's license while trying to open a new account. He had left prior to their arrival and was not located. Officers retrieved the license from an employee and learned its number returned to a West Carrollton woman and the name returned to a Macedonia man, who was not the suspect that presented it.

Menacing by stalking, Lander Road:

A Lyndhurst man, 24, was arrested around 3:30 a.m.Feb. 18 after he was reported to be banging on a window at his ex-girlfriend's house. He said he came to the home because he was upset that the woman, 21, was not returning any of his phone calls since they had gotten into an argument. The woman and her mother said it was not the first time he showed up at their home uninvited. The man was charged with menacing by stalking and told he would face trespassing charges if he returned to the home.
