Former Pine Ridge pediatrician charged with sexual abuse against minors

The Rapid City Journal - 3/2/2017

A former pediatrician with the Indian Health Service on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation has been charged in U.S. District Court with multiple counts of sexual abuse against minors.

Stanley Patrick Weber, 68, is facing five counts of aggravated sexual abuse, one count of sexual abuse and four counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Three of the charges involve victims younger than 12; six of the charges involve victims between 12 and 16. The victims' identities, including their gender, were not mentioned in court documents outlining the charges against Weber.

Authorities say the incidents of abuse span from May 1998 to August 2011, according to Weber's charging document.

One of the incidents occurred between April 2002 and April 2003 while "Weber was treating (the victim) for the flu," the charging document states.

Weber, who at one point was acting clinical director at Pine Ridge Hospital, was arrested Tuesday and is now detained at the Pennington County Jail.

Weber resigned from the hospital last year, said Oglala Sioux Tribe Council Member Richard Greenwald, who heads the council's Health and Human Services committee.
