BRIEF: Spartanburg man charged in domestic violence incident involving pregnant girlfriend

March 08--A Spartanburg man is accused of choking and hitting his pregnant girlfriend and putting a gun to her head during a domestic violence incident.

Kendel Breyon Berry, 23, of 100 Vanderbilt Lane, has been charged with kidnapping, attempted murder, domestic violence second degree and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. He was arrested March 2, according to warrants.

Berry's girlfriend reported to police on March 1 that Berry hit her and had twice thrown her down and choked her, according to a Spartanburg Police Department incident report. The woman's 1-year-old child witnessed the Feb. 20 incident, the report states.

The woman said he later pulled out a handgun and threatened to shoot her, according to the report.

The woman also told officers that hitting and choking incidents have taken place several times since October 2016, the report states.
