Glen Ellyn Suburban Life - 3/11/2017

GLEN ELLYN ? A jury on March 9 found a 27-year-old Glen Ellyn man guilty of aggravated domestic battery against his 61-year-old father but acquitted him of attempted first-degree murder. Charles Mitchell, of the 600 block of Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn, had been charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of domestic battery. At 1:19 a.m.June 14, 2016, police officers responded to a domestic violence call at a hotel room Mitchell shared with his father and brother at 677 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. Upon their arrival, officers found Mitchell, his father and his brother at the hotel, where Mitchell's father was suffering from multiple head injuries. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital. Authorities alleged that during that evening, Mitchell and his brother got into an altercation, resulting in Mitchell beating his brother about the face, including gouging his eyes. Mitchell then got into a physical altercation with his father in which Mitchell allegedly struck and kicked his father about his head and body, the release stated. "Domestic violence is traditionally thought of as spousal abuse," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin had said in a statement following Mitchell's arrest. "The allegations in this case however, that Mr. Mitchell beat his brother and father, clearly demonstrate that domestic violence can take many forms and can cause severe, if not irreparable, damage."
