Klamath man arrested for impersonating cop

Herald and News - 3/26/2017

A local felon is accused of misrepresenting himself as a police officer to an area resident Thursday night in Klamath Falls.

Homer Jay Wagner Jr., 46, was arrested after allegedly identifying himself as “Officer Wagner” to a man at his home on the 1700 block of Oregon Avenue.

The man told police Wagner knocked on the front door, shone a flashlight in his face and said he was there to arrest “Jim and Diane.” The said he did not believe Wager was an officer and, when told to leave, the suspect left without incident.

Wagner was charged Friday with criminal impersonation of a peace officer, a class C felony in Oregon. Attorney Stephen Hedlund was appointed to represent Wagner and his next scheduled court date is April 11 before Judge Marci Adkisson.

If found guilty, Wagner faces up to five years in prison.

In addition to not being a police officer, Wagner has an extensive criminal history in Oregon dating back to the '90s, including arrests for sexual abuse, theft, meth possession, illegal weapon possession and failure to register as a sex offender.
