Bail Set at $100,000 for Chehalis Domestic Violence Suspect

The Chronicle - 4/4/2017

April 04--A 41-year-old Chehalis man made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday where his bail was set at $100,000 after being charged with eight counts, including resisting arrest and attempting to disarm a law enforcement or corrections officer.

According to court documents, at approximately 9 a.m. on March 31 officers were dispatched to the 330 block of Southwest Third Street in Chehalis regarding an ongoing dispute. In the original call that was disconnected, a female caller said, "He's in my house trying to break down the door."

An officer familiar with both individuals responded to the apartment where a visibly upset woman ran out and said the man, George Gonzalez, was hiding in her room after kicking down the door to the apartment to gain entry.

Gonzalez, who has been hostile to law enforcement officials on prior occasions, exited the bedroom and was instructed to turn around and place his hands on his head. Gonzalez allegedly refused to comply. As an officer attempted to get Gonzalez to the ground, he felt a tug on his gun belt, according to court documents. A police dog was released and bit Gonzalez, forcing him to comply.

The woman told police Gonzalez kicked the door in after she refused to let him in. She said once he was in the house she tried to call 911 but was told to hang up, so she did. The woman "sounded terrified," according to court documents, and said Gonzalez threatened to come back once he was released.

Officers observed damage to the front door, which was consistent with it being kicked in.

Gonzalez was charged with burglary in the first degree, residential burglary-domestic violence, attempted second-degree assault, violation of a court order-domestic violence, attempting to disarm a law enforcement or corrections officer, resisting arrest, third-degree malicious mischief-domestic violence and interfering with reporting-domestic violence.

Gonzalez has prior convictions for fourth-degree assault-domestic violence, third-degree assault-domestic violence, unlawful imprisonment-domestic violence and felony victim protective order.

His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday.
